Yukon Highways and RoadsThe Yukon Department of Highways and Public Works's Transportation Division oversees the planning, management, construction and maintenance of the territory's highways and roads. The primary highway system, shown in the Yukon road map, is mostly surfaced with Bituminous Surface Treatments (BST), commonly known as chipseal. Asphalt pavement is also present in the Watson Lake and Whitehorse areas of the Alaska Highway. Due to the varied weather conditions and long distances between communities, heavy equipment may be encountered on Yukon highways at any time. Please travel with caution and be prepared for any emergency. Daily highway conditions can be found on the Road Report.
