  • The grain handling and transportation system is changing rapidly. Hundreds of kilometres of rail lines will be abandoned in Saskatchewan over the next three years. Consolidation of the primary elevator system, through replacement of wooden elevators with large concrete facilities continues to concentrate grain deliveries at fewer points.

Faced with this situation people in Saskatchewan are actively seeking solutions. If rail service is to be maintained in many areas, it will be in the form of short line railways.

The short line rail option was established in Saskatchewan in 1989. Today shortline rail is a feasible solution for many farmers and communities.

  • Nearly $4 million in investments went to Saskatchewan airports - a critical transportation mode in many areas of the province particularly the North. This spending provides for upgrading, construction, structural restoration and maintenance of provincially owned and operated airports. It provides financial assistance for the operation of small municipal airports.
