Welcome to OWNERS

Welcome to the One Window to National Environmental Reporting System (OWNERS) Web site. To launch the application, please login or register by clicking the button in the left menu bar.

OWNERS is an on-line reporting mechanism used by Environment Canada, provincial and municipal governments and private sector organizations to collect environmental data from industry. It was developed in response to industry requests to streamline and simplify environmental reporting requirements. OWNERS also provides a platform for government to collect environmental information in a more timely, efficient and cost-effective manner, and to improve the quality and accuracy of data. The system is secure and easy to use.

To date, eight federal, provincial, municipal and industry programs are using OWNERS to collect environmental data. They are:

• National Pollutant Release Inventory (NPRI)
• Environmental Protection Agreement for Refractory Ceramic Fibre Industry
• Ontario Ministry of the Environment Regulation 127/01
• Alberta Environment, Environmental Protection and Enhancement Act
• Canadian Chemical Producers Association National Emissions Reduction Masterplan (NERM) Survey

• Greater Vancouver Regional District Air Quality Management Bylaw 937
• National Framework for Petroleum Refinery Emission Reductions (NFPRER)
• Voluntary reporting of TRS emissions from the pulp and paper industry (TRS-PPI)

OWNERS provides a flexible and adaptable framework that enables the addition of other programs over time. This is a “no wrong door" solution to regulatory and voluntary reporting of environmental information and data. Links are provided to several other on-line reporting applications.

OWNERS is a flexible reporting mechanism with the goal to compile all of Environment Canada's reporting requirements into a single integrated application. This will decrease the reporting burden on Canadian businesses while improving compliance with Canadian environmental regulations thus increasing the accuracy and timeliness of data collection.
