As an agent Crown Corporation of the Government of Canada, AECL is committed to the concept of sustainable development. The Environment Policy contributes to AECL's commitment to corporate social responsibility. AECL includes protection of the environment as an integral component of our decision-making in all phases of our business activities, including product development, project planning, project implementation, operations and decommissioning. We also focus our environmental efforts on minimizing nuclear legacy obligations for future generations. All employees receive mandatory training on the policy and supporting program – making it clear that everyone in the organization has a contribution to make in protecting the environment.

The Environment Policy applies to all aspects of AECL's activities and became effective 2004 November 14.
