Sheryl Kennedy

Ms. Kennedy was named Deputy Governor of the Bank of Canada in October 1994. She is currently responsible for analysis of all domestic economic issues and their relationship to monetary policy, having previously served as Deputy Governor for financial markets and funds management from July 2001, and Deputy Governor for administration and the issuance of bank notes before that. The Research Department reports to her. As a member of the Bank's Governing Council and the Executive Management Committee, Ms. Kennedy shares responsibility for decisions with respect to monetary policy and the management of the business of the Bank.

Born in Kingston, Ontario, Ms. Kennedy graduated with a bachelor's degree from the University of Waterloo in 1976. She has a master's degree in public administration from Harvard University and certificates in finance from the London School of Economics.

Ms. Kennedy began her career in 1976 as an urban planner with the Nova Scotia Department of Municipal Affairs. In 1980, she joined the federal public service. From 1984 to 1994, before joining the Bank of Canada, Ms. Kennedy held various positions in the Department of Finance. She served at the Canadian Embassy in Paris, France as Finance Counsellor from 1990 to 1993.

She is married to William (Bill) Fleury. They have two children.
