Introduction to Aviation Course (3 weeks)

Dates: 10 July – 28 July 2006

This course introduces the basics of aviation training. Instruction is given in the areas of Navigation, Meteorology, Airmanship, Propulsion, Radio and Theory of Flight. Cadets are guided through normal glider operations and given “hands-on” experience on the glider field. Cadets can experience familiarization flights and simulator flights along with tours of the Air Traffic Control Advisory and Aircraft maintenance areas. Sports and recreational activities are an integral part of this course.

Gliding Scholarship (6 weeks)

Dates: 10 July – 18 August 2006

This course is designed to prepare candidates to obtain a Transport Canada Glider Pilot License and receive the cadet glider flying wings. This is a scholarship course that is awarded annually to 320 cadets across Canada. Cadets must be 17 to 18 years of age and meet specific application criteria including a selection board interview. Course content includes 50 hours of ground school instruction, 49 flights and 9 hours of flying instruction of which, 20 flights are made solo.

Power Scholarship (7 weeks)

Dates: 3 July – 18 August 2006

This course provides candidates with the practical knowledge and skills required to obtain a Transport Canada Private Pilot’s License and receive the cadet power flying wings. This is a scholarship course that is awarded annually to 250 cadets across Canada. Cadets must be 17 to 18 years of age and meet specific application criteria including a selection board interview. The course focuses on Theory of Flight, Meteorology, Air Navigation, Air Regulations, Radio Procedures and Practical Flying Instruction. In Prairie Region this course if offered at Skywings Aviation in Penhold, Alberta, Harv’s Air in Steinbach, Manitoba and Harv’s Air St. Andrews in St. Andrews, Manitoba.
