Setback Distances for Manure.

From the Oct 11, 2006 Broadcast of Call of the LandCall of the Land Home

First off today, we continue our series on manure management and regulations under the Agricultural Operations Practices Act or AOPA. As Trevor Wallace, Nutrient Management Specialist, explains, AOPA includes several rules regarding general setback distances that are intended to minimize the risk of manure nutrients entering common bodies of water and adversely affecting water quality.

Interview with Trevor Wallace (1:29 minutes) (373 Kb)

Under AOPA, there are also regulations surrounding when soil tests must be conducted before manure or compost can be applied to the land. We’ll hear about that on tomorrow’s program. For more information you can go to Ropin’ the Web, the NRCB, or call the Ag Info Centre at 310-FARM.
