Applying to ABC

By now, you should have a clear understanding of:

  • Aboriginal Business Canada's (ABC) eligibility criteria;
  • the kinds of business activities that we can support; and
  • any additional considerations that pertain to your project.

The next step is to contact us to discuss your business proposal.

In preparation for this, we suggest you start filling out a Statement of Intent – the form used to begin the application process for financial assistance from ABC.

Even if you are not ready to complete the form at this time, it is important for you to understand the scope of information we will require in order to consider assistance for your business proposal. Reviewing this form before you contact us will also allow you to list any questions you might have about preparing your Statement of Intent.

Once you contact us, your enquiry will be directed to a development officer who serves your geographic area. Your development officer will be your ongoing point of contact within ABC and will assist you throughout the application and financial support processes.

At your first point of contact with your development officer, you should be prepared to discuss:

  • your proposed business venture,
  • your eligibility to receive financial support from ABC,
  • the personal financial resources you will need, and
  • your education and business experience.

You may wish to ask questions about:

  • preparing a Statement of Intent;
  • documents required in your application package; and
  • other funding and information sources, including individuals, groups and organizations that may assist you in planning and implementing your project.

We strongly encourage you to speak with a development officer before you submit your Statement of Intent and supporting documents to ABC. This gives us an opportunity to identify any apparent information gaps with your proposal and ensure you understand what your application package must include. Failure to provide a complete application package can cause processing delays.

Do not proceed with any purchases related to your project. Any costs for which you have made a legal commitment prior to project approval will not be eligible for ABC support.
