Water Quality Trends in Selected
British Columbia Waterbodies

Water quality trends in bc Clean, healthy and safe land, water and air for all living things and provision of social, economic and outdoor recreational opportunities consistent with maintaining a naturally diverse and healthy environment are goals of the BC Ministry of Environment and Environment Canada. This report examines the trends in water quality at our federal-provincial monitoring stations over the last 10 to 20 years, as an indicator of our progress in achieving these goals for water.

Environment Canada and the BC Ministry of Environment operate a long term ambient water quality monitoring network in British Columbia. In this study, trace metal concentrations in the Columbia River at two water quality monitoring stations located at Birchbank and Waneta were assessed along with the current sampling methods and analytical methods.
