  • All personal information you do provide is protected under the federal Privacy Act. • Environment Canada (EC) uses per-session cookies. The per-session cookies do not collect personal information about you. Per-session cookies are used to store information within a session (or visit to our web site). These cookies are deposited on a user's computer only while the user is visiting the site and are deleted when the user closes the session. Here is the list of information that we are collecting by using per-session cookies:

    • EC makes no attempt to link these addresses with the identity of individuals visiting EC sites
    • The length of each visit

However, users should be aware that some information from external sources is available only in the language in which it was provided.

Hyperlinking from and to an Environment Canada Internet site

Links to Web sites not under the control of Environment Canada (EC) are provided solely for the convenience of users. Environment Canada is not responsible for the accuracy, currency or the reliability of the content. Environment Canada does not offer any guarantee in that regard and is not responsible for the information found through these links, nor does it endorse the sites and their content.

Users should be aware that information offered by non Government of Canada sites that are not subject to the Official Languages Act and to which Environment Canada links, may be available only in the language(s) used by the sites in question.

Alternate File Formats

Canada Gazette notices, orders and regulations are presented in three formats: Adobe PDF format, HTML (Hypertext Markup Language) and ASCII (American Standard for Computer Information Interchange). The on-line PDF format of the Canada Gazette is official as of April 1, 2003. The electronic versions of the Canada Gazette, Parts I, II and III prior to April 1, 2003, are not the official publications. For all purposes of interpreting and applying the law, users should consult the appropriate official publication (PDF from April 1, 2003 or print prior to April 1, 2003) of the Canada Gazette, Parts I, II and III.

Prior to April 1, 2003, the ASCII format was chosen to be the most appropriate alternate format because this common text language can be read by virtually any software package available. Present technology, standards and assistive software tools cannot provide access to some of the complex information contained in the Canada Gazette; therefore tables and items such as graphics, equations, charts, chemical symbols, forms and illustrations have been extracted. Users of the alternate format should communicate with the contact person found within the notice, order or regulation for further information on the extracted items.

The alternate English and French versions of parts I and II in ASCII will not be official but will nevertheless be available simultaneously with the PDF. As of April 1, 2003, the ASCII alternate format has been replaced by HTML which makes information such as tables, equations, etc. more accessible to persons with disabilities, and allows for search capabilities.

For tools and information to help make Adobe PDF files accessible to users with visual disabilities, please go to access.adobe.com. If problems persist, contact the CEPA Registry Office at: CEPARegistry@ec.gc.ca and alternate document formats will be provided.
