Municipal Rural Infrastructure Fund

On June 21, 2006, the Province of British Columbia and the Government of Canada announced an agreement had been signed for the Canada B.C. Municipal Rural Infrastructure Fund (MRIF), which will commit $102 million in combined funding, over the coming year, for infrastructure projects across the province.  A minimum of 80 per cent of funding will be targeted toward communities with a population under 250,000 people.

The application process for accessing funding under the MRIF began on October 12, 2006. Communities and not-for-profit organizations can make an application online until January 31, 2007.  Additional details on the Municipal Rural Infrastructure Fund and the application process can be found at www.canadaBCmrif.ca

Canada-B.C. Infrastructure Program

The Municipal Rural Infrastructure Fund replaces the Canada-British Columbia Infrastructure Program (CBCIP) which launched in 2001.  The application process for the Canada-B.C. Infrastructure Program ended in 2005 with the federal and provincial government committed to funding more than 300 infrastructure projects across B.C. worth more than $900 million.

Nearly $532 million in combined federal and provincial funding is being invested in these projects which are helping to improve drinking water and wastewater systems, develop energy efficient buildings and improve community infrastructure.
