History

Looking back as we look forward

GlobeDCC was created in 1951 and, in the 50 years since, has been a major part of some of the projects that have made Canadian history. Originally, we were created to help build the massive defence infrastructure that would protect us throughout the Cold War.

  • We helped build the Distant Early Warning (DEW) line across the Arctic, and we are now helping to decommission it.
  • We played a key role in developing military infrastructure in France and Germany, as part of Canada's commitment to NATO.
  • We were part of the team that built the "Diefenbunker", a bunker meant to sustain federal operations in the event of a nuclear war. Today, it is a museum.

PipelineBy 1963, our firm had administered construction contracts totalling $1.5 billion. In fact, our experience made us a natural to help construct Expo 67 and the Trans-Canada Pipeline.

Along similar lines, we have been part of Canada's international aid efforts, building hydroelectric dams in South Asia and schools in the West Indies. Our work on the Colombo Plan, for example, raised DCC international profile.

Our track record of success continued through the 1970s and 1980s, as we worked on special projects for DND such as the St. Jean Megacomplex and the North American Air Defence Modernization Program.

Over the past few years, we have also been closely involved in DND's plans to rationalize, consolidate and relocate operating units, and we have been helping it decommission obsolete establishments. At the same time, DCC has been involved in refurbishing DND Reserve Force facilities across the country.

Until the 1990s, our services focused on the traditional areas of construction and construction contract management. In the last decade, we expanded these offerings to include environmental, commissioning and facilities management services.

Despite our proud history, we are always seeking ways to better serve Canada's Department of National Defence. While we can look back in pride, we're always looking forward.
