GROUP 1: Security Clearance for Government Bankings Services

Presenters:

  • Peter Ferguson, Director, E-commerce Policy, Industry Canada
  • Rachelle Angus, Manager, Industrial Security Operations Division, PWGSC

Facilitator: Sylvie Godin, PWGSC

Description: This session will cover privacy and security concerns related to the handling of personal information.

Mr. Ferguson will discuss the US Patriot Act and the impact on Canadians. Also, he will draw a parallel with the issues and concerns under the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act.

Ms. Angus will present the Industrial Security Program which administers the security clearance and approval of suppliers to the Government of Canada and abroad. She will discuss all areas of the security clearance process and what can be done to improve the end-to-end process.

GROUP 2: Credit Cards Fraud

Presenters:

Description: The presenters will provide an overview of the risks associated with the use of credit cards from different perspectives, including purchasers, merchants, and credit card issuers. They will highlight various items that need to be addressed and a discussion on potential solutions will follow.

GROUP 3: Single Window

Presenters:

  • Ross MacLeod, Director General, Operations and Processing, Service Canada
  • Jacinthe Baril, Senior Director, Government Business Banking, National Bank of Canada

Facilitator: Larry Smith, PWGSC

Description: Ms. Baril will provide an overview of their single-window approach through which services are provided to their clientele. This is an opportunity to see how the private sector responds to the changing demands of an active client base.

The Government of Canada's recent budget announcement has identified a new service delivery initiative to Canadians - Service Canada. Mr. MacLeod, a key architect of this new organization will explain Service Canada's role and how they will transform the way government delivers services. This new citizen-centered approach will provide one-stop, easy access to federal programs and services across multiple channels (such as in person over the counter, on-line via WEB access, mail and telephone services)

GROUP 4: Misdirected payments

Presenters:

  • Paul Wagonner, Director, Global Deposits and Payments - Sales Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce

Description: To review the administration of misdirected direct deposits (MDDs). The Receiver General (RG) obtains direct deposit services through an agreement with Canadian financial institutions (FIs). At present, both the RG and the FI’s are concerned with the increasing costs associated with MDDs. Costs are increasing both in the form of losses from unrecoverable MDDs and in the efforts to recover those deposits that have been misdirected. In light of rising costs, a review of the current administration of MDDs is required.
