Mandate

The mandate of the Drug and Organized Crime Awareness Service is to reduce the incidence of drug addiction by providing expertise on the various substances, harnessing resources and collaborating with other stakeholders in order to have a significant impact on the various problems related to drug abuse.


Programs, Services and Initiatives

Drugs and Social Phenomena

This tool provides addiction counsellors with updates on various substances and drug-related problems, including:
- marihuana;
- amphetamine base (methamphetamine and ecstasy).

Patch Program

The goal of this program is to send a direct message to parents, coaches and players that our common responsibility is to help young people achieve their full potential through a healthy lifestyle.

Two-Way Street

Aimed at parents, the objectives of the program are to inform and encourage communication with children about the legal consequences and substantive characteristics of drugs, what alternatives are available to parents who wish to intervene, and what types of resource agencies are available.

Conferences intended for addiction counsellors dealing with drugs, the consequences of drug abuse, and Canada’s Drug Strategy.

Substance abuse prevention and sponsorship program with the Midget AAA Hockey League
Substance abuse prevention and sponsorship program with the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League
Collaboration with the Quebec Elite Baseball League
Promoting awareness and commitment with Aboriginal communities
Awareness workshop with parents (Teen/parent communication)
Information sessions on drugs with a number of communities
Doping in sports conferences intended for young people in Quebec and Atlantic provinces
Development of prevention strategies with school boards
Collaboration with employee assistance programs (private and public sectors)
Collaboration with the universities of Montreal and Sherbrooke regarding an addiction counselling certificate
Collaboration with a number of Quebec hospitals as part of their training programs
Collaboration with alternative justice agencies (Mesures alternatives des Basses-Laurentides and Mesures alternatives des Vallées-du-Nord)
Collaboration with various treatment centres.
