Welcome to the Canada-Prince Edward Island Infrastructure Programs Web site
MRIF
The new Canada-Prince Edward Island Infrastructure Program - Municipal Rural Infrastructure Fund (MRIF) will invest more than $54 million in Island communities. Over the next five years, this initiative will support renewal, expansion or material enhancement of infrastructure in rural and urban parts of the province.
MRIF is funded by equal contributions from the federal, provincial and municipal governments.
Objectives
MRIF aims to improve the quality of life of Prince Edward Islanders through investments that:
- enhance the environment
- support long-term economic growth
- improve community infrastructure
- build 21st century infrastructure through best technologies, new approaches and best practices.
Program Focus
The program priority is green or environmental municipal infrastructure. This includes projects that will protect and/or enhance the quality of our environment, such as water and wastewater systems, water management, and solid waste management.
A secondary focus will allow other local infrastructure, including local transportation infrastructure, cultural and recreational infrastructure, infrastructure supporting tourism, and rural and remote connectivity to benefit as well.
