Water resources programs

Environmental Farm Planning (EFP)
Farmers with EFPs are eligible to apply for financial and technical assistance to implement beneficial management practices through the National Farm Stewardship Program (NFSP) and Greencover Canada.

National Farm Stewardship Program (NFSP)
Landowners can receive financial and technical assistance to implement on-farm beneficial management practices to address environmental risk identified in their Environmental Farm Plans.

National Water Supply Expansion Program (NWSEP)
Producers and agricultural communities can receive technical and financial assistance to help meet their growing water needs.

Pesticide Risk Reduction and Minor Use Programs
The Minor Use Program assists producers in accessing more environmentally friendly and efficient pest management technologies.

Soil management programs

Community Pasture Program
Ranchers and producers have access to rangeland for their herds.

Environmental Farm Planning (EFP)
Farmers with EFPs are eligible to apply for financial and technical assistance to implement beneficial management practices through the National Farm Stewardship Program (NFSP) and Greencover Canada.

Greencover Canada
Landowners can access a package of funding and technical assistance to help improve grassland-management practices, protect water quality, reduce greenhouse-gas emissions, and enhance biodiversity and wildlife habitat.

National Farm Stewardship Program (NFSP)
Landowners can receive financial and technical assistance to implement on-farm beneficial management practices to address environmental risk identified in their Environmental Farm Plan.

Pesticide Risk Reduction and Minor Use Programs
The Minor Use Program assists producers in accessing more environmentally friendly and efficient pest management technologies.

Prairie Grain Roads Program (PGRP)
Rural and urban municipalities and counties in Manitoba, Saskatchewan and Alberta have access to funding for improving rural infrastructure.

Prairie Shelterbelt Program
Producers in the Prairies can get tree and shrub seedlings for the cost of shipping and handling.

Shelterbelt Enhancement Program
Farmers, agriculture communities and land managers have increased access to trees for planting of Prairies shelterbelts.

Air quality programs

Environmental Farm Planning (EFP)
Farmers with EFPs are eligible to apply for financial and technical assistance to implement beneficial management practices through the National Farm Stewardship Program and Greencover Canada.

Greencover Canada
Landowners can access a package of funding and technical assistance to help improve grassland-management practices, protect water quality, reduce greenhouse-gas emissions, and enhance biodiversity and wildlife habitat.

National Carbon and Greenhouse Gas Emission Accounting and Verification System
This system will be useful primarily to policy makers, economists, scientists, producer organizations, industry and others desiring information on how Canadian agricultural activities are affecting or could affect greenhouse gas emissions and removals.

National Farm Stewardship Program
Landowners can receive financial and technical assistance to implement on-farm beneficial management practices to address environmental risk identified in their Environmental Farm Plan.

Prairie Shelterbelt Program
Producers in the Prairies can get tree and shrub seedlings for the cost of shipping and handling.

Knowledge-based programs and services

Information Gaps in Water Quality and Nutrients
Producers will benefit from research on the safe and efficient agronomic use of animal manures and nutrients.

National Agri-Environmental Standards Initiative (NAESI)
Producers will benefit from performance standards establishing the degree of desired environmental quality of air and water and soil in agricultural areas.

National Agri-Environmental Analysis and Reporting Program (NAHARP)
NAHARP provides objective, science-based indicators to inform decision-makers in agriculture and help improve policies and programs aimed at addressing environmental issues faced by producers.

National Carbon and Greenhouse Gas Emission Accounting and Verification System
This system will be useful primarily to policy makers, economists, scientists, producer organizations, industry and others wanting information on how Canadian agricultural activities are affecting or could affect greenhouse gas emissions and removals.

National Land and Water Information Service
This information service and future web portal will provide land, soil, water, climatic and biodiversity resource information to land-use decision makers to help them make responsible environmental choices..

Pesticide Risk Reduction and Minor Use Programs
The Pesticide Risk Reduction Program develops and implements strategies, conducts research and develops alternative approaches to pest management.
The Minor Use Program assists producers in accessing more environmentally friendly and efficient pest management technologies.

Integrated Pest Management (IPM) Research
The goal of IPM research is to reduce the use of chemical pesticides and to develop natural products and processes to control insects, mites, weeds, and plant diseases. AAFC scientists are working on programs that combine a complementary array of control techniques -- including traditional and alternative pesticides, genetic resistance and other forms of biocontrol - into one integrated approach for managing pests.
