What They Do

Communication Reserve Resource Management Support Clerks provide administrative and financial support to all military activities. This career field offers a wide scope of employment opportunities, both in terms of the working environment and tasks assigned.

Resource Management Support Clerks have the following primary duties:

Qualifications Requirements

Resource Management Support Clerks must be responsible, tactful, discreet, mentally alert, and possess a good memory. They must be capable of accurately performing repetitive clerical and financial tasks and be willing to work long hours to meet deadlines in the early stages of their career. As well, Resource Management Support Clerks should be interested in dealing with the public, therefore excellent interpersonal relations and communication skills are required. This trade also involves working with numbers, drafting correspondence, operating computers and other office equipment, and in working in a detailed and organized manner. Reliability and honesty, as well as the flexibility and the ability to adapt to a variety of locations, conditions and management systems, are also necessary attributes. Critical thinking skills are particularly important in the higher rank levels where Resource Management Support Clerks perform management functions and are often responsible for supervising and managing large groups of people.

Training

Basic Military Qualification

The first stage of training for all members of the Communication Reserve is a 4-week Basic Military Qualification (BMQ) course. This course is conducted full-time during the summer at the Communication Reserve School in Shilo Manitoba. This training provides the basic core skills and knowledge common to all trades, and is physically demanding. This course covers the following topics:

Soldier Qualification

On successful completion of BMQ, Communication Reserve soldiers must complete the 4-week Soldier Qualification (SQ) course held at the Communication Reserve School in Shilo Manitoba. This course covers the following topics:

Basic Military Occupation Training

On completion of SQ, Resource Management Support Clerks attend basic military occupation training at the Canadian Forces School of Administration and Logistics (CFSAL) in Borden, Ontario. Training takes approximately 55 days and includes:

Advanced and Speciality Training

Personnel who demonstrate the required ability and ambition will undertake advanced military occupation training through formal course or on-the-job training as they progress in their careers. Speciality training may also be available.

Working Environment

Resource Management Support Clerks are normally employed indoors in an office environment. Under field conditions, personnel may work from a tent or a mobile van and may be exposed to operational situations, which may require them to perform as members of a combat unit.

Reserve Resource Management Support Clerks work approximately one to two evenings a week and up to two weekends a month at their local unit. Once trained there are opportunities for full time employment with the Canadian Forces, either in Canada or deployed overseas, such as with an United Nations operation.
