Entry Rules


Notice to Teachers or Group Leaders: Please submit the posters of all participants, age 18 and under, without conducting a pre-selection process. We would like to encourage as many youth as possible to take part in the Poster Challenge.

  1. All posters must be in colour (use vibrant colours for best results). Black and white posters will not be accepted.

  2. Words and numbers may not be included in the design.

  3. Braille art may be submitted.

  4. Participants may use any materials except three-dimensional supplies.

  5. Poster dimensions should be no smaller than 28 cm x 43 cm (11” x 17”) and no larger than 38 cm x 50 cm (15”x 20”).However, participants between the ages of 5 and 11 are permitted to use a smaller paper size, minimum 21.5 cm x 28 cm (8.5” x 11”).

  6. Computer-generated art is permitted and should be submitted with a list of technical specifications. Please note that a hard copy of the design must be provided (please see rule 5 for permissible paper sizes).

  7. All entries, including computer-generated art, must be original designs that have not been published previously.All participants undertake not to copy or reproduce works, symbols or logos, in whole or in part, that are the property of third parties.

  8. Only one entry per participant is permitted, though multiple entries per school/region may be mailed together to save on postage.

  9. All entries should be marked “Canada Day Poster Challenge 2007” and be postmarked before midnight on February 28, 2007.

  10. Entries must be submitted to the Celebrate Canada Committee Office in your province or territory. Participants must reside in Canada.

  11. A participant is eligible only once to be chosen as a provincial/territorial finalist.

  12. Once submitted, all designs, including any intellectual property relating to the designs, will become the sole property of the Department of Canadian Heritage.The Department will be free to use any or all such entries in any form without compensation or remuneration. Entries will not be returned to the participants.

  13. Selected participants will be contacted by the Celebrate Canada Committee Office by telephone in early April 2007. If said participants are of the age of majority, they will be required to sign a consent and release statement to allow the Department of Canadian Heritage to use and publish their name, voice,photograph, testimonial, likeness or appearance in a video, as the case may be, for promotional activities related to the contest. If said participants are minors, a parent or guardian will be required to sign the consent and release form.

  14. The winners must accept their prizes as offered. No substitution, transfer or exchange will be permitted.

  15. Participants should attach the completed entry form to the back of their poster or print the following information, in pencil, on the back of the poster: their name, age, address, telephone number, school, school address, name of teacher, preferred language of correspondence, how they found out about the Poster Challenge, and one or two sentences explaining how their design expresses the Poster Challenge theme, A Portrait of Canada: Celebrating 140 Years. This description will not be evaluated. Students are asked to please use the entry form.


  16. Posters will be evaluated using the following criteria: general evaluation, compliance with the theme, clarity of message, colours and originality. Decisions made by the judges of the Poster Challenge are final.

Please note: Failure to follow the rules will result in the disqualification of your entry.
