Use of Measurement Canada Logo and Corporate Identifiers by 3rd Parties

Measurement Canada has received requests from clients to use Measurement Canada corporate identifiers in private sector marketing materials. We wish to inform our clients that we are developing industry guidelines in this regard with our legal counsel. The guidelines will be published on this web site as soon as they are available.

In the meantime, we wish to remind our clients that the use of Measurement Canada's logo and corporate signature (the Canadian flag with the words "Measurement Canada - An Agency of Industry Canada" in both official languages) or allusions to any partnerships with Measurement Canada, without our prior written authorization, is prohibited.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Question 1: Can I use Measurement Canada’s corporate signature or logo on my company’s letterhead and advertising materials to promote my accreditation (or registration) status?
Answer: Use of Measurement Canada’s corporate signature and logo is not permitted by an accredited or registered company. Symbols of the Government of Canada can not be provided to parties outside the government whether for the purpose of marketing or promoting their services or identifying their status as being accredited (or registered) to perform a particular task or function. Government identifiers are trade mark protected and are to be used by the Government of Canada to identify its institutions, programs and services.

  • Question 2: What can I use to promote my accreditation (or registration) status?
Answer: Accredited or registered companies may use the following statements (or tag lines) on their company letterhead and advertising. Note: The word registration can be substituted for accreditation and vis versa in the statements referencing the Weights and Measures Act.
“Accredited by Measurement Canada to perform inspections pursuant to the Weights and Measures Act.”
“Accredited by Measurement Canada to perform inspections pursuant to the Electricity and Gas Inspection Act”
“Company X is accredited to perform inspections pursuant to the Weights and Measures Act”
“Company X, registered to perform inspections on Measurement Canada’s behalf.”

  • Question 3: What if the scope of my accreditation (or registration) does not include all of the services my company provides?
Answer: An accredited or registered company may use the tag lines identified in Question 2, provided that the scope of the accreditation or registration is clearly identified. (For example, “Company X, registered to perform bulk petroleum meter inspections on Measurement Canada’s behalf.”) There shall be no confusion as to which of the company’s services are accredited/registered and which are not.

  • Question 4: What if a company has several locations, only some of which are accredited or registered?
Answer: Whenever a company is comprised of several sites, only those accredited (or registered) sites can make reference to their accreditation or registration status. There shall not be any confusion as to which sites are accredited or registered.

  • Question 5: Can my customers make reference to my company’s accreditation or registration status?
Answer: No. Customers of accredited or registered organizations may not make reference to the status of their service providers.

  • Question 6: What happens if my accreditation or registration status is revoked?
Answer: Upon termination of accreditation or registration, the company shall immediately stop publishing and distributing any document bearing reference to the accreditation or registration status.
