Vision

The vision of the LRDW is to create a central provincial data warehouse that:

  • is easily accessed by all authorized users
  • provides customized information views for a variety of business purposes
  • contains integrated data from many ministries and business partners
  • directly supports program business application development & operation
  • establishes a supporting management framework that ensures the effectiveness, relevance and utility of the LRDW and its information holdings

Objectives

The objectives of the LRDW project are to:

  1. Provide a unified access and discovery service
    • Provide qualified clients with the ability to locate and view data from the LRDW
    • Key services - client authorization, content presentation, content discovery
  2. Provide a range of information services
    • Provide qualified clients with a range of services in support of applying LRDW content to client information needs
    • Key services - data connection, data authorization, query handlers, data distribution
  3. Provide a range of information content
    • Provide data custodians with data administration and publication services in support of making their content available through the warehouse, and assist them in populating the warehouse with well-structured, integrated and analysis-ready content
    • Key Services - content acquisition, content management, warehouse information model development, business view development, metadata capture tools, metadata management
  4. Establish a common and consistent warehouse
    • Consolidate and rationalize existing warehouse data content and information assets
    • Key services - warehouse content and service rationalization and consolidation
  5. Ensure the continued relevance and value of the LRDW
    • Key Services - LRDW promotion and evolution, LRDW policies and procedures, LRDW roles and responsibilities

The LRDW is the primary and exclusive integrated collection of the Province's natural resource and land data. This data holding provides a wide range of clients with the following benefits:
  • One common access point for the Land Information BC Gateway - staff in different ministries and external groups can work together using the same data to make sound business decisions
