VICTORIA – Premier Gordon Campbell announced agreements in-principle have been reached with the Tsay Key Dene Band and the Kwadacha Nation to address the impact on their communities and culture from the construction of the Bennett Dam and the Williston Reservoir 40 years ago. Joining Premier Campbell for the announcement were Richard Neufeld, Minister of Energy, Mines and Petroleum Resources; BC Hydro President and CEO Bob Elton; Michael de Jong, Minister of Aboriginal Relations and Reconciliation; Dave Porter, a member of the political executive with the First Nations Leadership Council and Chair of the Kaska Dena Council; Chief Johnny Pierre, of the Tsay Keh Dene Band; Chief Donny Van Somer of the Kwadacha Nation and Elder Jean Isaac.

RENEWED CONSULTATION PROCESS ENSURES CONTINUITY

JOHN – The Ministry of Energy, Mines and Petroleum Resources, the Oil and Gas Commission, and the Council of Treaty 8 Chiefs (Fort Nelson First Nation, Prophet River First Nation, Doig River First Nation, Halfway River First Nation, West Moberly First Nations and Saulteau First Nations) have signed new agreements that revitalize the oil and gas activity consultation process.

B.C. AND LIL'WAT FIRST NATION SIGN SEA-TO-SKY AGREEMENT
 
VANCOUVER – B.C. and the Lil’wat First Nation have signed an agreement allowing the Province to widen the Sea-to-Sky Highway through portions of the Lil’wat claimed traditional territory, while enabling the Lil’wat to pursue employment, training and economic development opportunities.

AGREEMENT SETTLES DECADES OF FLOODING IMPACTS
 
VICTORIA – The Province of British Columbia and BC Hydro have reached Agreements in Principle (AIP) with the Tsay Keh Dene Band and the Kwadacha Nation that will address the impacts of flooding from the Williston Reservoir on these First Nations in the Peace River Valley region, announced Premier Gordon Campbell.

PROVINCE SIGNS 30TH ABORIGINAL ENHANCEMENT AGREEMENT
 
KELOWNA – The Province joined Aboriginal leaders and Central Okanagan school district officials today to sign B.C.’s 30th Aboriginal enhancement agreement to improve Aboriginal student achievement, Okanagan MLAs Sindi Hawkins, Al Horning and Rick Thorpe announced.
