VICTORIA – British Columbia local governments can now access over $80 million to enhance their communities through investments in local infrastructure, cycling and pedestrian pathways and public celebration spaces. Applications for three new cost-sharing programs are now available on-line.

$80,000 ALLOWS WOMEN’S CENTRE TO PROVIDE SHELTER
 
VANCOUVER – The Downtown Eastside Women’s Centre will receive one-time funding of $80,000 to continue providing overnight shelter for women who need it most, particularly during this winter season, Minister responsible for Housing Rich Coleman announced.

LOCALMOTION FUNDING NOW AVAILABLE FOR COMMUNITIES
 
VICTORIA – Communities across B.C. are now eligible to access the new $40-million LocalMotion Fund, which will help build cycling and pedestrian pathways, improve safety and accessibility, and support children’s activity programs in playgrounds, Community Services Minister Ida Chong has announced.

SMALL COMMUNITIES CAN ACCESS NEW PROJECT FUNDING
 
VICTORIA – The Province has officially launched the Towns for Tomorrow program, allowing B.C.’s smaller communities to access $21 million for infrastructure priority projects, creating legacies for the future, Community Services Minister Ida Chong and MLA Kevin Krueger, the Premier’s Parliamentary Secretary for Rural Development, announced.

GRANTS NOW AVAILABLE TO CREATE SPIRIT SQUARES
 
VICTORIA – The Province is now making $20 million available for B.C. Spirit Squares, allowing communities across British Columbia to create or enhance outdoor public celebration spaces, announced Community Services Minister Ida Chong and Stan Hagen, Minister of Tourism, Sport and the Arts.

TRANS CANADA TRAIL CONNECTS COMMUNITIES
 
VICTORIA – The government of British Columbia, the Capital Regional District and the Cowichan Valley Regional District are partnering on a $1.2-million project to construct a portion of the Trans Canada Trail. The new 24-km route will connect existing recreational trails in the regional districts.
