Dr. Erich W. Vogt - Vancouver

Click on image for full-size versionIn addition to an outstanding career as a top researcher and scientist in the field of nuclear physics, Dr. Erich Vogt was one of the founders of the TRIUMF project at the University of British Columbia, the largest university-based scientific laboratory in Canada for particle and nuclear physics.

Dr. Vogt is a professor in the Department of Physics at the University of British Columbia, where he has taught thousands of students who have excelled under his enthusiastic mentorship and influence. Dr. Vogt has also served on many high-level advisory committees in the field of nuclear and accelerator science in various world-class institutes. He is an internationally renowned scholar, and has published many research papers on theoretical physics.

Dr. Vogt has served as chair and director of TRIUMF. He has also served as president of the Canadian Association of Physicists, and was the first chairman of the Science Council of BC. In 1991, a physics laboratory at Tel Aviv University in Israel was named in his honour, in recognition of his contribution to physics research.

Dr. Erich Vogt became a Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada in 1970, and was appointed an Officer of the Order of Canada in 1976. He has received honourary doctorates from six Canadian universities, and was awarded the Centennial Medal of Canada, the Queen's Jubilee Medal, the CAP Medal for Achievement in Physics, and the Chairman's Award for Career Achievement from the BC Science Council.
