Waste Management

The provincial Ministry of Environment (MoE) is responsible for developing and enforcing waste standards for aquaculture operations. MoE is currently finalizing new standards, which will be regulated under a new Aquaculture Waste Control Regulation under the Waste Management Act.

The new regulation will authorize discharges from finfish aquaculture operations provided they comply with the new waste-discharge standards. It will also specify environmental protection measures including standards for discharges, goals for best management practices, and monitoring and reporting requirements.

For more information, visit the Ministry of Environment links below. Specific information on the management of farm wastes and the development of new waste control regulations can be found here.
