Canada Trade Mission To Chile

December 3 - 5, 2003

General Information

The Team Canada Division of the Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade (DFAIT) is pleased to offer a Canada Trade Mission to Santiago, Chile from December 3 - 5, 2003. This mission will concentrate on the following sectors:

  • Agrifood / Aquaculture
  • Biotech / Health
  • Building Materials / Forestry Products
  • Capital Projects and Services / Energy
  • Consumer Products
  • Education / e-Learning / Information and Communications Technology
  • Mining / Environment
  • Services for Indigenous Development

Participation is not limited to these sectors. All organizations with a business interest in the Chilean market are encouraged to participate on the mission.

REGISTRATION

Registration for the Canada Trade Mission to Chile is on a first-come, first-served basis. All registration forms must be completed and returned with full payment by Wednesday, November 19, 2003. To register, please contact the Business Development Officer for your province/territory:

MISSION FEE

A business programme fee of $850CAD will apply for each company representative. This fee entitles you to participate in all aspects of the business programme, including seminars, hospitality events and ground transportation to and from business programme events.

Please note that payment can be made by credit card, certified cheque, bank draft or money order made payable to the "Receiver General for Canada - Ref: Canada Trade Mission to Chile". Registrations not accompanied with full payment will be rejected.

Cancellation is only possible if the Team Canada Division receives a written confirmation by the registration deadline of November 19, 2003. Refunds will not be issued after November 19, 2003.

TRANSPORTATION

It is your responsability to make your own travel arrangements, including all air and ground transportation to and from the airport. These costs are in addition to the mission fee. Please ensure that you book your flights early.

Please note that Air Canada is scheduled to begin direct service to Santiago from Toronto Pearson International Airport commencing December 2, 2003. As well, many other flight alternatives exist. Your Business Development Officer has more information on the options.

PASSPORT AND VISA

Your passport should be valid for at least six months beyond the date of your return. If you are travelling on a regular (blue) Canadian passport, you do not require a visa. However, holders of a Canadian diplomatic or special passport, students or Canadians in Chile on work permits require a Chilean visa. Canadians must also be in possession of a tourist card upon arrival. These are provided by the airlines and are valid for a maximum of 90 days. The tourist card must be presented prior to departure.

Additional travel related costs:

Upon arrival at the Arturo Merion Benítez International Airport in Santiago, Canadian visitors to Chile are required to pay a fee of $55US in U.S. cash (exact change only). Upon payment, a receipt will be stapled at the back of your passport. This receipt is applicable for the duration of the passport's validity. This entry fee is not the same as a visa requirement.

A departure fee of $26US is charged to all passengers leaving Chile.

HEALTH AND SAFETY

It is recommended that you consult your family physician prior to travelling to Chile to determine health risks, especially if you have a medical condition. All inoculations should be up-to-date prior to travel. Please note that it is your responsibility to cover any health-related costs incurred during the mission.

ACCOMMODATION

The Team Canada Division has made a block booking at the Hyatt Regency Santiago. Reservations within the block booking are to be made through the Team Canada Division. Note that the Team Canada Division will only reserve your room and that it is your responsibility to pay your own hotel bill upon departure. We would request that you do not contact the hotel directly regarding room reservations within the block booking.

Confirmation of your hotel reservation(s) will be provided to you by the Team Canada Division. Your hotel reservations will be made according to the dates you indicate. Your credit card information will be used to reserve hotel accommodation only. It is your responsibility to pay all hotel costs upon departure.

All changes to your reservation(s) after November 26, 2003 are your responsibility and must be made with the hotel directly as well as copied, in writing, to the Team Canada Division. Please note that any changes to a cancellation of a hotel reservation may be subject to charges levied by the individual hotels.“No show” charges or late cancellation fees are your responsibility.

ACCREDITATION

All delegates are required to wear an accreditation badge to gain access to the venues. Accreditation badges will be provided to you at the Canadian Business Delegation Office in the hotel at www.teamcanada.gc.ca
