THE ST. JOHN'S NURSING HOME BOARD

The St. John's Nursing Home Board (SJNHB) is a partnership of not-for-profit organizations that operate nursing homes in the St. John's region. The board was created in 1996 to enhance the quality of resident care while achieving efficiencies within the reformed regionalized healthcare system.

The SJNHB is responsible for approximately 40 percent of the nursing home beds in the province and is accountable to the Department of Health and Community Services for the operation of 1,050 long term care beds in the St. John's area.

The six nursing homes are St. Patrick's Mercy Home, Saint Luke's Homes, The Agnes Pratt Home, The Salvation Army Glenbrook Lodge, Hoyles-Escasoni Complex and the Masonic Park Nursing Home.
A leader in long-term care, the SJNHB is also responsible for policy direction of the nursing homes, and the development and evaluation of standards of practice based on Resident-Centred Care philosophy.

The SJNHB is committed to the vision of Resident Centred Care, providing more choices for older persons and adults with disabilities for living life to the fullest.

The SJNHB advocates the development and implementation of programs such as Adult Day-care Services, already available at one of the nursing homes, as well as Assisted Living Alternatives.

In addition to providing nursing home care, potential care options include sup-portive housing, outreach programs/day programs, integrated primary care service centres for the frail elderly and other leading edge service options.

RESIDENT CARE SERVICES
Resident care services at all of the homes include medical, nursing, physiotherapy, occupational therapy, therapeutic recreation, clinical nutrition, social work, pastoral care, palliative care, as well as advanced practice, comprehensive and holistic nursing. The nursing homes also provide support services such as housekeeping, laundry, maintenance, food services, security and transportation.
