Canadian Importers Database

Industry Canada (IC)

Last Verified: 2007-04-19

With this market intelligence tool, Canadian manufacturers and primary goods producers can find out the names and locations of the major companies importing specific products into Canada. By identifying buyers, suppliers or import replacement opportunities from the comfort of their offices, Canadian businesses are then free to concentrate their marketing efforts on these specific sales leads and spend less time searching and more time selling.

This database is offered free of charge.

Summary

Clients can search the database in three ways:

  • by product
  • by city or
  • by country of origin.

Products are classified using Harmonized System (H.S.) codes and specific products can be identified by entering a keyword, a numeric H.S. code or by browsing through the complete list of products.

Reports list the major importers of the selected product for the latest year for which full customs data is available. These companies are listed in alphabetical order with city, province and postal code information. For each product, there is also a summary of import market concentration for the given year. Reports can also be generated showing the major companies importing goods in a particular city or from a particular country of origin.

While business confidentiality is protected by strict rules and no values are attributed to any particular company, enough information is provided to enable Canadian producers and resellers to approach importers to market their own products against the foreign competition.
