The Arts Scholarships/Professional Development program
is designed to recognize and encourage New Brunswick students and
arts professionals who have demonstrated exceptional artistic talent
and potential, and who are pursuing a career in the arts. This program
awards scholarships for full time, part time or short-term study. |
|
OBJECTIVES |
- To assist
New Brunswick residents who intend to pursue a career as an arts
professional;
- To increase
the number of professional artists and arts professionals in New
Brunswick;
- To encourage
the development of New Brunswick talent in literary arts, performing
arts (music, theatre, and dance), cinematic arts (film and video),
visual arts, and arts administration.

ELIGIBILITY |
|
Only New
Brunswick residents are eligible to receive funding. A resident
is defined as a Canadian citizen or landed immigrant who has
resided in New Brunswick for at least one year immediately
preceding the application deadline.
An applicant
is eligible for consideration who:
- has
already completed relevant basic training and who has demonstrated
exceptional potential and talent as an artist;
- intends to study creative writing, music, theatre,
dance, film/video, visual arts/photography, crafts, literary
translation, or arts administration at a recognized institution
or with a recognized private instructor for the purpose
of pursuing a career as a professional artist or an arts
professional; and
- intends to enroll in a full-time or part-time post-secondary
program, or in short-term studies. Students enrolled full-time
in schools specializing in the arts are also eligible.

INELIGIBILITY |
|
- Individuals who come to New Brunswick solely for the
purpose of studying at an institution are not eligible.
- Studies completed before the competition deadline
date are not eligible.
- Short-term studies beginning before the competition
deadline date are not eligible.
- Doctoral studies are not eligible.
- These grants are intented for students intending to
pursue a career in creative work in the arts.

LEVEL OF FUNDING |
|
Full-time Studies: $2,500 maximum.
Part-time or Short-term studies: $1,000 maximum.
NOTE:
An individual is eligible for one Arts Scholarship per year,
and he or she may receive up to a maximum of 4 scholarships.
An individual can only receive one Professional Development
grant in any two-year period.
The scholarship
will be paid as follows:
Full-time studies: 70% of the amount recommended
by the jury will be sent to you upon receipt by the New Brunswick
Arts Board of official confirmation of enrollment (which must
be sent directly to the New Brunswick Arts Board by the institution).
The remaining 30% will be sent only after the New Brunswick
Arts Board has received an official document from the institution
you are attending confirming you are continuing the studies,
as proposed in your application, for the second term.
Part-time and short-term studies: the full amount recommended
by the jury will be sent to you upon receipt by the New Brunswick
Arts Board of official confirmation of enrollment from the
institution you are attending.
Please note that it is the student's responsibility
to contact the institution concerned in order to have them
send confirmation of enrollment directly to the New Brunswick
Arts Board.
Applicants who do not complete the studies for which
the scholarship was awarded will be required to reimburse
a portion, or the total, of the amount received. The amount
to be reimbursed will be determined by the New Brunswick Arts
Board.

HOW TO APPLY |
|
Deadline
for submitting application:
February 1
It is the
responsibility of each applicant to ensure that all materials
required to complete his file are received by the New Brunswick
Arts Board, or postmarked, by the deadline of the competition.
Applicants must forward to the New Brunswick Arts Board
a complete file containing:
- a Juried
Program Application Form duly completed, and
- all
the required support material and samples of work stated
under the headings "Requirements" and "Samples of Work".

NOTIFICATION OF RESULTS |
|
Applicants will be notified of the results, by mail,
approximately 3 months after the competition deadline.
Results will not be released over the telephone.
