Prime Minister announces North American Leaders' Summit in Canada

On August 20 and 21, 2007, I will host the leaders of Mexico and the United States at the North American Leaders' Summit in Montebello, Quebec. President Calderon, President Bush and I will talk about issues of shared concern in North America, but also about how North America can play a constructive role in the world in advancing freedom, democracy, human rights and the rule of law.

The Montebello Summit will allow us to deepen our ties as sovereign neighbours and friends, and to further our cooperation through the Security and Prosperity Partnership to ensure North America is secure and economically dynamic, and that our citizens enjoy the very best quality of life. In Montebello, we will discuss, among other things, the competitiveness of our businesses, energy and the environment, the efficiency of our borders and our preparedness for emergencies and disasters.

I would like to thank the people of Montebello for hosting this event. The natural beauty of the region and the warmth of its people make Montebello a perfect location for showcasing Canada to the world.

 

El Primer Ministro anuncia la Cumbre de Líderes de América del Norte, a realizarse en Canadá

Los días 20 y 21 de agosto de 2007, recibiré a los líderes de México y Estados Unidos en la Cumbre de Líderes de América del Norte en Montebello, Quebec. El Presidente Calderón, el Presidente Bush y yo conversaremos sobre cuestiones de preocupación común, y también sobre cómo América del Norte puede tener un rol mundial constructivo en la promoción de la libertad, la democracia, los derechos humanos y el imperio de la ley.

La Cumbre de Montebello nos permitirá estrechar nuestros lazos como vecinos soberanos, y afianzar nuestra cooperación mediante la Alianza para la Seguridad y la Prosperidad en América del Norte a fin de garantizar la seguridad, el dinamismo económico y la mejor calidad de vida para todos los ciudadanos en América del Norte. Entre otros asuntos, en Montebello, deliberaremos sobre la competitividad de nuestras empresas, la energía y el medio ambiente, la eficiencia de nuestras fronteras y nuestra preparación para emergencias y desastres.

Ante todo, quisiera dar las gracias a la comunidad de Montebello por organizar esta reunión. La belleza natural del lugar y la calidez de su gente hacen de Montebello el lugar perfecto para presentar Canadá al mundo.
