RIDM - Commissioner's word

The RIDM is a lively celebration of documentary. The National Film Board of Canada, partner from the beginning, marks the tenth anniversary with Junior, festival opener and first documentary feature by Isabelle Lavigne and Stéphane Thibault. We're also associated with the Open Door Day.

This edition is dedicated to the great pioneer Pierre Perrault and will screen his still powerful documentary Un pays sans bon sens!. Jacques Leduc's famous Chronique de la vie quotidienne will be part of the Tributes/Retrospectives program. The heritage of these NFB filmmakers is evident in our selection, which includes Richard Desjardins and Robert Monderie's Le peuple invisible, Denys Desjardins's Au pays des colons, Benoit Pilon's Des nouvelles du Nord and Alanis Obomsawin's Gene Boy revient chez lui. These filmmakers have invested a great deal of themselves and their time to create authentic films that reflect people's lives and display a true auteur's view.

The RIDM is also an occasion to discuss the future of documentary film at Doc Circuit Montréal, where the NFB will be a prime participant.

Enjoy the festival!
