Symposium 2005: Methodological Challenges for Future Information Needs

Statistics Canada’s 22nd International Methodology Symposium, Methodological Challenges for Future Information Needs, will take place from October 25 to 28, 2005 at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in downtown Ottawa.

This international event addresses issues of statistical methodology relevant to the work of a government statistical agency as well as to a broader statistical community including universities, industry and other organizations.

The theme of this symposium will focus on the information gathering and dissemination in the context of official statistical programs. In addition to two plenary sessions, there will be two streams of parallel sessions. The first will be concerned more with issues related to the gathering of information, while the second will focus on issues related to dissemination. Topics to be covered include:

  • Sources of data
  • Administrative Data
  • Registers
  • Respondent relations
  • Standardized concepts and questionnaires
  • Data collection
  • Metadata
  • Confidentiality
  • Data analysis
  • Data quality
  • Data integration

We are soliciting papers with an emphasis on the topics above. Proposals should be in the form of a 250-word abstract submitted by May 13, 2005. The papers will be presented and discussed during the three days of the conference, preceded by a day of workshops. Proceedings from the conference will be published and disseminated to participants.
