About Crown Copyright & Licensing
What we do
The requirement for the administration of Crown copyright is described in Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat’s Communications Policy for the Government of Canada [http://www.tbs-sct.gc.ca/pubs_pol/sipubs/comm./comm._e.asp]. It is also supplemented by specific procedures [http://www.tbs-sct.gc.ca/pubs_pol/sipubs/comm./cpgcp-ppcgc1_e.asp#_Toc88271064] that identify responsibilities and describe the copyright clearance process for Government of Canada works.
Through the Communications Policy for the Government of Canada, the Crown Copyright & Licensing (CCL) section of Public Works and Government Services Canada has the responsibility to:
- Provide assistance, advice and support to the public and to Government of Canada departments and agencies with respect to Crown copyright issues;
- Administer and protect the copyright in works authored by Government of Canada departments and agencies;
- Negotiate and issue licensing agreements for non-commercial and commercial rights associated with works subject to Crown copyright;
- Offer information sessions to author departments; and
- Investigate potential copyright infringement on Government of Canada works.
The CCL team can help to facilitate the use of Government of Canada works in all existing formats through the permission-granting process.
Please do not hesitate to contact us for assistance.
