About Us
The Canadian Tourism Commission (CTC) was created in 1995 as a special operating agency within the federal government department of Industry Canada. In 2001 it was made a Crown corporation, allowing for more independence from federal government departmental financial and administrative controls.
The CTC's objectives as a Crown corporation are to:
- Sustain a vibrant and profitable Canadian tourism industry
- Market Canada as a desirable tourist destination
- Support a cooperative relationship between the private sector and the governments of Canada, the provinces and the territories with respect to Canadian tourism
- Provide information about Canadian tourism to the private sector and to the governments of Canada, the provinces and the territories.
The CTC is industry-led, market-driven and research-based, with a 26-member board of directors. Together with its public- and private-sector partners, the CTC undertakes:
- Macro-economic, market and industry research;
- Product and industry development; and
- Advertising and promotional activities in markets across the globe.
