Navy charts new waters in its strategic vision

OTTAWA – The Navy’s key strategic document, Leadmark, now has an additional chapter titled “Securing Canada’s Ocean Frontiers: Charting the Course from Leadmark.”  This chapter supplements Leadmark and validates Canada’s naval vision as planners ply a new course through the uncharted waters of the 21st century.

Leadmark, The Navy's Strategy for 2020, was published in June 2001 and proved instrumental in detailing the realignment of operations and resources to achieve optimal performance in the 21st century, while providing clear strategic direction to facilitate this transformation.  Leadmark’s strategic tenets still hold true but given the radical global changes since its publication, an updated strategy was vital.

With the recent release of the Defence Policy Statement, the Government of Canada articulated its intent for the Canadian Forces.  The transformation outlined in the Defence Policy Statement will result in significant change for the Canadian Forces. “Securing Canada’s Ocean Frontiers: Charting the Course from Leadmark” provides a structured foundation from which the Navy will address the challenges of its next transformation and secure Canada’s ocean frontiers.

The Adobe Acrobat ® version is below.  HTML versions will be available in the near future.
