September 30, 1976

A Minister of State (Fitness and Amateur Sport) was appointed to assist the Minister of National Health and Welfare in carrying out the latter’s responsibilities in respect of the policies and programs related to fitness and amateur sport.

The powers, duties and functions of the Minister of National Health and Welfare under the Fitness and Amateur Sport Act were transferred to the Secretary of State of Canada. That part of the Public Service of Canada known as the Fitness and Amateur Sport Branch of the Department of National Health and Welfare was also transferred to the Secretary of State of Canada.

A Minister of State for Fitness and Amateur Sport and Multiculturalism was appointed to assist the Secretary of State of Canada in carrying out the latter’s responsibilities in respect of the policies and programs related to fitness and amateur sport and multiculturalism.

The powers, duties and functions of the Minister of National Health and Welfare under the Fitness and Amateur Sport Act were transferred to the Minister of Labour. That part of the Public Service of Canada known as the Fitness and Amateur Sport Branch of the Secretary of State of Canada was also transferred to the Minister of Labour. Therefore the Hon. Gerald Regan ceased to hold the title of Minister of State (Sports) on  March 5, 1980, as he was also the Minister of Labour.

The powers, duties and functions of the Minister of National Health and Welfare under the Fitness and Amateur Sport Act were transferred from the Minister of Labour to the Secretary of State of Canada. That part of the Public Service of Canada known as the Fitness and Amateur Sport Branch of the Department of  Labour was also transferred to the Secretary of State of Canada.

That part of the Public Service of Canada known as the Fitness and Amateur Sport Branch of the Department of the Secretary of State of Canada was also transferred to the Minister of National Health and Welfare.
