Licensing Opportunities
Getting a head start through licensing.Licensing technologies from the NRC Institute for Information Technology (NRC-IIT) can be a profitable way for companies to solve specific research problems or to get new products to market quickly. NRC-IIT has a strong track record of working with its partners to commercialize, disseminate or apply the outputs of its research. Technologies looking for partners.Typically, licensing opportunities arise in one of two ways.
What to expect: life-cycle considerations. Most of the NRC-IIT technologies available for licensing are at the “proof-of-concept” or “prototype”stages. This means that companies wishing to commercialize them will be expected to invest in further technology development. Academics, students and members of the public may find these technologies sufficiently developed for non-commercial purposes. Each licence agreement is unique.NRC-IIT licence agreements reflect the status and the desired application of the technology, as well as the partners’needs. Some of the technologies listed below are available on standard terms, whereas others may be subject to negotiation. Most licence agreements contain terms pertaining to commercialization, licence duration, payments, milestones and periodic reporting. Some technologies may require a business plan or technology usage case. Find out more.To find out more about specific licensing opportunities and technologies, please follow the links below. Open Bidding ProcessesOccasionally, NRC-IIT will seek partners through an open bidding process. Invitations for participation in open bidding processes are announced as the opportunities arise. The following technologies are currently available through commercial licences:
