Main Emission Sources

Estimated total NH3 emissions in Canada in year 2005 were 559,623 tonnes (with open sources e.g. forest fires, prescribed burning). The primary emitting sources are:

  • Agricultural animals
  • Pesticide and fertilizer application
  • Chemicals industry
  • Other industrial sources (e.g. petroleum refineries, pulp and paper mills)
  • Transportation (mainly gasoline fuelled cars and trucks)
