The air issues associated with NOx are:

  • Acid Rain (acidification caused by deposition of acid and nitrate transformation products of NOx)
  • Smog (contribution to secondary formation of ozone and fine PM)
  • Visibility/Regional Haze (NOx contribution to secondary formation of fine PM)
  • HAPs (potential adverse health effects from direct exposure to NO2 and/or its acid and nitrate transformation products makes NO2 a HAP in its own right)
