What are these issues about?

If you touch an issue with your mouse cursor, you will find a short description and related links to help you select an issue. Please scroll down if the description is longer than the screen space available.

How does this tool work?

Choose your issue with a single mouse button click. Upon selecting each issue, you will be presented with a new screen containing tree of subissues. In some cases, you will have a second and even third layer of subissues. Depending on your needs, you may be as specific or general in your selection. After pressing the issue link, the screen will refresh and the issues and subissues box at the top will now contain your selection in red print. When you are sure of your choice, you may confirm it by pressing the floating search button and obtain a brief summary of all pertinent cases.

Summary Search Results

If you wish further information, there are two links below each summary. The decision number will provide you more important information like the decision date, the results of the appeal and any other significant issues that arose from the finding of the judge. Alternatively, you may read the entire record of decision by choosing Full Text.

Carrying out a Case Search

This search is designed for individuals who know a case reference number and wish to access the summary of the hearing directly by the reference number. If you do not know the number of the case, please go to Issues and Subissues.

Researching Decisions of Specific Judges

Appeal Decisions may be retrieved by the last name of the presiding judge. To search, use the drop-down menu. Press the downward arrow on the right hand side of the open window beside "Umpire/Judge." Move the scroll bar down through the alphabetical list until the cursor is sitting on the name of the judge and push the left mouse button. The name of the judge now appears in the window. Press the search button below the judge selection window and you will be provided with a results screen.

The results screen provides a full listing of this judge's cases. You can select a summary by pressing the reference number in the left-hand "Indicator" column. Additionally, you may access a full text version of the decision written by the judge by picking "Yes" in the second column from the right. If this decision was appealed further, you may follow the case through the levels of appeal by selecting the decision number in the far right column.

Note: As well as judge names in the name selection menu, there are general listings for the Supreme Court and the Quebec Supreme Court or an "unspecified" category for those decisions where the name of the justice was not noted.

Last Fifty Decisions

On this page you will find a list of the last fifty decisions entered or modified. Summaries of each decision may be selected by identifier number links in the left column. Choosing "Yes" in the second column from the right allows you access the full text version of the decision. If this decision was appealed further, you may follow the case through the levels of appeal by picking the decision number in the far right column. Please check back regularly for new updates.
