![]() Melissa Friedman grew up in Fredericton. As a child, she spent her time galloping around the house on imaginary horses, or acting out stories narrated on vinyl records. Some of her fondest memories are of sitting at the kitchen table with her parents, listening to CBC on the radio. To this day, hearing the theme song to Cross-Country Checkup triggers a craving for her family's traditional Sunday-night steak and potatoes. In high school, Melissa completed an internship with Fredericton's Information Morning. She received her BA from UNB, and then a journalism degree from the University of King's College. After a brief stint in Moncton, she took over the reins as CBC Radio's reporter in northern New Brunswick. From the Bathurst bureau, she covered stories ranging from violent fishing disputes to highway blockades and the Canada Games. Now, when she's not traipsing across New Brunswick for Maritime Noon, she can be found covered in hay & sawdust with her real live horse Murray. Or, when it's too cold for the stables, she's likely huddled in a quiet corner with a cup of hot chocolate and a novel. |
