Wilbert Telfer has been sitting in the same hospital room since last July. It's not because of his illness...he has Parkinson's but until recently he was pretty healthy. A bad fall last Canada Day landed him in Valley Regional Hospital in Kentville, Nova Scotia. Doctors there said he shouldn't go home anymore, it was time to find a nursing home. Yet more than five months later his family is no closer to moving their 80 year old dad.

We heard about Wilbert's story from his daughter Cynthia, who lives in Ottawa. Here she is, speaking with Pauline. You'll also hear from her mother Kay, and the site manager for Valley Regional, Eileen Shaw.

During the next two shows we'll be exploring the issues of nursing home shortages and senior care in all three Maritime provinces.

And we'll look at some suggestions for how to ease the coming crisis.
