ZONE 24: Northern P.E.I. - 640 licence holders

Landings:
2003 - 5,603 tonnes
1989 - 3,700 tonnes

Increase of 51 per cent
The fishery is breaking its own records every year, and is still rising.

Season runs from May 1 to June 30.

 

ZONE 25: Western part of Northumberland Strait - 850 licence holders

Landings:
2003 - 2,260 tonnes
1989 - 5,877 tonnes

Decrease of 62 per cent
The fishery has been declining since 1984, when landings hit a record high of 6,230 tonnes.

Season runs from Aug. 16 to Oct. 16.

 

ZONE 33: Halifax to Cape Sable Island - 723 licence holders

Landings:
2002/2003 - 2,700 tonnes
1989/1990 - 2,000 tonnes

Increase of 35 per cent

Season runs from the last Tuesday in November to May 31.

 

ZONE 34: Cape Sable to Digby - 992 licence holders

Landings:
2002/2003 - 17,000 tonnes
1989/1990 - 9,500 tonnes

Increase of 79 per cent

Season runs from the last Tuesday in November to May 31.
