Summary

A TradeMap registration also provides free access to Product Map, another tool for analyzing international trade data.

TradeMap provides online access to the world's largest trade database and presents indicators on export performance, international demand, alternative markets, and the role of competitors from both the product and country perspective.

TradeMap operates in a web-based interactive environment and presents the trade flows - that is the values, quantities, trends, market share, and unit values - in both graphic and tabular format. The data is available for over 180 countries and territories and 5 300 products defined at the 2, 4 or 6-digit level of the Harmonized Commodity and Coding System (Harmonized System).

TradeMap data comes from the COMTRADE database of the United Nations Statistical Division. COMTRADE is the world's largest and most comprehensive source of product-specific trade data.

With TradeMap, users are able to:

  • analyse present export markets;
  • pre-select priority markets;
  • obtain an overview of competitors in global and specific markets;
  • review opportunities for product diversification in a specific market;
  • identify existing and potential bilateral trade with any partner country; and
  • obtain information on tariffs and non-tariff barriers.

Product Map gathers information for 72 industries that can be used for international market research and business development. Each Product Map portal provides:

  • extensive international trade statistics for more than 180 countries and territories;
  • market analysis tools that provide insight into global market trends;
  • tools for identifying international trade opportunities in the product categories;
  • networking tools to assist subscribers in creating a presence on the Web; and
  • links to potential business contacts, published market research and sources of market intelligence.

As well, the ITC's Country Map provides country market profiles of about 180 countries and territories that can be used to benchmark national and sectoral trade performance. The profiles are available free and without a subscription on the Internet.
