  • Education: Providing learning opportunities that reflect leading-edge standards initiatives and that ensure your company has the tools to be globally competitive.

Summary

GS1, the largest e-commerce standards organization in the world, is a pioneer in global data synchronization and next-generation product identification. With member organizations in over 100 countries, GS1 has created an integrated and seamless global supply chain.

The Electronic Commerce Council of Canada (ECCC) became GS1 Canada in 2005, joining forces with other GS1 member organizations internationally. The result: a partnership like no other in the age of e-commerce, and one that fosters the continuous development and adoption of global standards.

On behalf of Canadian industry, GS1 Canada works closely with industry associations and has members representing all points in the supply chain. As a not-for-profit organization, GS1 Canada is supported by the fees paid by our members, from users of our cost-recovery-based solutions, and by grants and contributions from the Government of Canada.

A licensed Company Prefix from GS1 Canada is a mandatory component of industry-compliant bar codes, and forms the basis for identifying companies and products. Licensed company prefixes are used in the identification of products at all levels of packaging. They are also the basis for the bar code, which links to databases containing important information about a product and its manufacturer.

GS1 Canada is the only authorized source of globally unique Company Prefixes in Canada. To preserve the integrity of the EAN.UCC global numbering system, company prefix licences (a standard term and condition of trade) must be renewed on an annual basis.

GS1 Canada membership is included in annual prefix registration and renewal which also includes access to ECCnet implementation services, as well as educational opportunities at reduced member rates.

*Note: "non-profit" also known as nonprofit organizations, non profit organizations, not-for-profit organizations, voluntary organizations and volunteer organizations.
