Boil Water Advisory Still in Effect (August 30, 2007)

Residents of the Carcross, Tagish, Marsh Lake and Lake Laberge areas or those heading out to the Southern Lakes are reminded that they should still be boiling their drinking water, or using water from other sources if their wells or underground water storage tanks have been or may be subject to surface water contamination due to flooding.

The affected residents should bring their water to a rolling boil for at least two minutes prior to using it for drinking, making infant formula, making juices, brushing teeth, washing raw foods, cooking, and making ice.

Residents should also remember to use bottled water for drinking and the other purposes if they suspect their water is contaminated by chemicals, or has an unfamiliar taste or odor.

This advisory will remain in effect until affected residents are sure that water is safe to drink.

The rising water levels on these lakes means there is the potential for disease-causing bacteria and viruses, as well as Giardia and Cryptosporidium, to enter the groundwater.
