The Parc Aquarium animals come from 4 great aquatic ecosystems: the St. Lawrence River and its tributaries, and the Atlantic, Arctic and North Pacific Oceans.
Over 15,000 physico-chemical analyses on water quality are done each year.
Parc Aquarium is the only establishment of its kind in Québec and it specializes in cold-water specimens.
In the main building only there are a total of 61 pumps, 53 reservoirs, 59 filters, 51 sterilizers, 64 heat exchangers, 52 degassing columns, 25 protein skimmers and 123 bio-filters.
The water in Parc Aquarium's various indoor and outdoor basins comes from 3 different sources: an artesian well, water from the Québec City aqueduct system, and the St. Lawrence River.
The salt- and sea-water treatment and manufacturing plant filters 1,300,000 litres of water every 45 minutes, which is enough water to provide a shower for every person in Québec City each day.
The reason the water in the Arctic Sector basins is such a dazzling blue is because the water is treated with ozone.
