1. Introduction

Grants for business are available in specific industries and for specific purposes. Subsidies are primarily available for certain employment situations. The purpose of this document is to provide an overview of some of the grants and subsidies presently available for businesses in Ontario.

Although a grant or subsidy is only available for specific situations or industries, there are a number of government financing options available for Ontario entrepreneurs. 3. Funding and Support

Endangered Species Recovery Fund (ESRF)

The Endangered Species Recovery Fund (ESRF) sponsors scientific/research and education/outreach projects that assist the recovery and protection of Canadian species at risk. The maximum award is $25,000 per year for up to two years.

Technology Early Action Measures (TEAM)

TEAM supports projects that are designed to demonstrate technologies that mitigate GHG emissions nationally and internationally, and that sustain economic and social development.

Moving on Sustainable Transportation Program - MOST

Supports projects that produce the kinds of education, awareness and analytical tools we need if we are to make sustainable transportation a reality.

ecoFREIGHT Program - Transport Canada

Provides the freight transportation industry with cost shared funding for real world testing of freight transportation technologies that have the potential to reduce the emissions of air pollutants and greenhouse gases (GHG).

Scientific Research and Experimental Development (SR&ED) Program

The program is a federal tax incentive program to encourage Canadian businesses of all sizes and in all sectors to conduct research and development in Canada that will lead to new, improved, or technologically advanced products or processes.

Ontario Innovation Tax Credit (OITC)

Public and private corporations can receive a tax credit for scientific research and experimental development carried on in Ontario.
