1.  Regulations

1.1  Canadian Food Inspection Agency

Contact the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) at 506-452-4963 for information on federal government requirements such as health inspections, good manufacturing practices, safeguards, etc. The CFIA also administers the Consumer Packaging and Labelling Act and its Regulations.

1.2  Health
The Public Health Inspection unit of the provincial Department of Health can provide information on bacteria testing as well as other necessary steps. Look under "Public Health Services" in the Provincial section of the blue pages of your telephone directory for your nearest office.

1.3  Environment
To withdraw groundwater you will need a Water Source Approval from the provincial Department of Environment. For more information, call 506-453-7945.

To obtain guidelines regarding the "recycle or return for refund where applicable" message on the label and for distributor registration information, contact the Coordinator of Beverage Containers of the provincial Department of Environment at 506-453-7945.

1.4  Protection of Personal Information: Your Responsibilities

The Guide to Canada's Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA) helps businesses understand their obligations and comply to the Act. Since January 1, 2004, the PIPED Act covers the collection, use or disclosure of personal information in the course of all commercial activities in Canada, except in provinces which have enacted legislation that is deemed to be substantially similar to the federal law.
