EcoAction Community Funding Program

Please note that EcoAction funding for the period up to March 31, 2008 has been allocated. Therefore, approved projects from the October 2007 and February 2008 application rounds will receive funding from the EcoAction after April 1st , 2008.

EcoAction is an Environment Canada program that encourages Canadians to take action in their communities in support of healthy environments.

Eligibility Criteria

Non-profit*, non-government groups can apply for funding. This includes community groups, environmental groups, service clubs, First Nations and aboriginal groups, associations and youth or seniors' organizations.

EcoAction encourages projects that protect, rehabilitate or enhance the natural environment, and build the capacity of communities to sustain activities into the future. Projects require matching funds or in-kind support from other sponsors. Funding support is available for projects that address Environment Canada's priority environmental issues:

  • Climate Change
  • Clean Air
  • Clean Water
  • Nature

The deadlines for applying are February 1 and October 1 of each year. Contact a regional Environment Canada office to discuss your project ideas and to request a copy of the Applicant's Guide.

Summary

The Community Funding Program supports organizations in taking environmental action in their communities. It can provide funding for projects that meet the following program goals: have a positive impact on the environment, provide opportunities for Canadians to take action at the local level, get more people to practice environmentally responsible behaviors and address priority environmental issues.

The maximum amount available per project is $100 000. Applicants must ensure that at least 50% of the total value of their project comes from sources other than the federal government.

*Note: "non-profit" also known as nonprofit organizations, non profit organizations, not-for-profit organizations, voluntary organizations and volunteer organizations.
