The CANMET Energy Technology Centre - Ottawa (CETC-O) works with industry, trade and professional associations, utilities, universities, and other levels of government to develop and deploy leading-edge technologies in the areas of residential, commercial and industrial energy efficiency, renewable energy technologies, and transportation energy technologies.
CETC-O was formed in January 1996 as part of Natural Resources Canada's reorganization under the government-wide Program Review initiative. It incorporates the CANMET Energy Research Laboratories and the former Energy Efficiency and Alternative Energy divisions. CETC-O reflects the department's renewed mandate to focus on science and policy linkages for the sustainable development and use of Canada's resources. Federal funds are provided in part by the Program on Energy R&D (PERD).
